Balanced Literacy at NES

Welcome to the NES balanced literacy website.  My name is Kristi Mettlen and I am the Title 1 Reading teacher here at Natoma Elementary School. We are committed to helping all children learn to read and write using a differentiated and balanced approach to instruction.  As the Title 1 teacher I help to coordinate and plan the Balanced Literacy Framework used in our district.

On the ribbon above you will find links that will explain the "Balanced Literacy" approach to teaching reading and writing to students. You will also find some of the unique ways we have developed our reading curriculum at Natoma Elementary,  USD #399 to follow the Balanced Literacy framework.
